5 Awesome Games to Play in the Car on Family Trips
Create a bingo card with your kids before you leave. Sit and draw together the things you think you’ll see on the road: a dog, a tree, a big rock, a bridge, a sign… Once on the road, use coins or plastic game pieces to place on the elements you’ve spotted! The first person to fill in a whole line wins.
Find the intruder
Choose 4 or 5 words from a category of things and include 1 word that is similar but not quite in the same group. Share them with the other passengers and have them guess which one is the odd man out! For example: pick 3 flower names and a vegetable name.
Make up funny sentences with the three letters on the license plates of passing cars. Each word must correspond to one letter. So HEM becomes Honk, Everyone’s Mad!
Who am I?
Choose a person or character and the other passengers must ask you questions to find out who they are. The only acceptable answers are yes or no!
Make up moves associated to what’s happening on the road. Each time you pass a bridge, raise your legs. You drive across the yellow line? Stick out your tongue! For long stretches of road with nothing interesting, create choreographies that the rest of the family will need to imitate in the right order: clap your hands once, stick a finger in your ear, curl your bangs, etc.
Our pro tip for a successful car trip: don’t forget to also stock up on crosswords, books, music and crayons!
